An Ordinary member is a registered member who has obtained their O’ level certificate (SSCE), or holds an OND from a recognised Polytechnic. Other acceptable qualifications include NCE, TTC and other relevant A’ Level qualifications.

A student member is a registered member who has obtained a higher degree from any recognised tertiary institution (BSC, B.A, B.ED, B.TECH, HND, etc) and/or has passed the Institutes Diploma Examinations and is qualified to commence the Microfinance Certification Examinations or Chartered Banker Examinations.

A Microfinance Certified Member is a Student member who has passed the Microfinance Certification Examinations, has been inducted as a Microfinance Certified Member and is now qualified to be addressed as MCIB.
An Associate is a Student member who has passed the Chartered Banker examinations, has been inducted as an Associate of the Institute and is now qualified to be addressed as ACIB.
This category of membership is attained by favourable vote of the Governing Council. An applicant vying for this Category of membership must satisfy the criteria of Council to ascertain that he/ she is eligible to be so registered.
The applicant must:

Have obtained such academic, professional or other qualifications(s) as may be prescribed by the Governing Council from time to time.

Have held any senior management positions in a bank or other financial institutions Neither be a Fellow or an Associate of the institute. Be an Assistant General Manager (AGM) or above in a bank / a Lecturer 1 in a tertiary institution.

An Honorary fellow is a member who has supported and contributed immensely to the growth of the Institute and the banking sector in general. Members in this category are carefully selected and conferred with Honorary Fellowship by favourable vote of the Governing Council.
A Fellow is a member who has been an Associate for a period of ten (10) years and above and who has satisfied all other criteria as may be specified by the Governing Council from time to time.
