FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Membership

Membership of the Institute is open to:

  • All persons employed in any banking and finance Institutions.
  • All Students and graduates of Tertiary Institutions.
  • Any other person from any banking, finance and other social science-related fields.
  • Interested persons from any other field.

The grades of membership are: Ordinary Member, Student Member, Microfinance Certified Banker, Associate (Chartered Banker), Honorary Senior Member, Honorary Fellow and Fellow.

The criteria for joining the Institute are:

  • Ordinary Membership - (OND, NCE, SSCE)
    • Where the person does not satisfy the conditions for registration as a Student, Associate, Honorary Senior Member, Honorary Fellow or Fellow specified in the Act.

 

  • Student Membership
    • works in a financial institution and has a degree or equivalent qualification, or the minimum qualification prescribed by the Council, or
    • does not work in a financial institution, but has the basic qualification approved by the Governing Council from time to time, for registration as a student; or
    • Satisfies any other condition which the Governing Council may, from time to time, approve.

 

  • Associate Membership
    • has passed the Chartered Banker examination specified by the Governing Council
    • not being a member of the Institute at the time of application for membership, has passed the qualifying examination of an Institute of Bankers in any other country acceptable to the Governing Council, or
    • has had a period of non-the-job practical experience not less than the minimum period prescribed by the Governing Council for the category of membership sought, or
    • has been elected by any recognised foreign Institute to that category of membership.

 

  • Honorary Senior Member-
    • does not satisfy the conditions for registration as an associate or fellow specified, but has obtained the academic qualifications prescribed by the Governing Council for honorary senior membership; and
    • occupies a senior management position in a bank, or other financial institution or a tertiary educational institution.
  • Honorary Fellow
    • has contributed immensely to the growth of the banking and financial industry and the institute, or
    • is considered by the Board of the Fellows and the Governing Council as a fit and proper person to be awarded the honorary fellowship of the Institute.
  • Fellow
    • satisfies the Governing Council that he is a fit and proper person to be so registered and has, for some years (to be specified by the Governing Council), been an associate member, and
    • satisfies all other criteria as may be specified by the Governing Council from time to time.

Yes, you can become a member by applying online for any of the following categories of membership based on your qualifications and banking experience.

 

-HONORARY SENIOR MEMBERSHIP-

QUALIFICATION: (AGM and above in banking and finance Institutions and Lecturer I in Tertiary Institutions)

REGISTRATION FEES:  N410,000.00 FOR BANKERS, WHILE N294,500 FOR LECTURERS.

Life Membership is available at N900,000 and N539,500, respectively.

 

-STUDENT MEMBERSHIP-

QUALIFICATION: (B.SC, HND OR ANY EQUIVALENT QUALIFICATION)

REGISTRATION FEES:  N10,000.00

 

-ORDINARY MEMBERSHIP-

QUALIFICATION: (OND, NCE, WAEC, SSCE OR ANY EQUIVALENT QUALIFICATION)

REGISTRATION FEES: N5,000.00

Yes, please go to http://www.cibng.org/cb_apply.asp. to start your membership registration.

 

New Applicants: New applicants will have to create a username and password and fill in their email addresses, select the membership category to be registered for (wait for the detailed breakdown of payment), then proceed to make the payment. You can continue the registration later as a registered applicant by going to www.cibng.org/cb_app_login.asp. if you cannot complete it now. (Please ensure that you enter a correct email address.)

Registered Applicants: Registered Applicants are the people who have created a username and password but have yet to fill out the membership application form. To complete your registration, go to www.cibng/cb_app_login.asp. Enter your username and password, fill the form and click submit. Please note that you must upload a JPEG passport photograph (size: 190x190 pixels) and a scanned copy of your certificate (B.Sc./HND and others- size: 900 x 900 pixels) before your application can be approved.

Your application will be approved within 72 hours once you have attached the relevant documents during registration (scanned passport photograph and Academic Certificate). Your membership number will then be sent to you via email.

Your membership number is the number sent to you on completion of registration as a member via email. It always starts with the Alphabet and is followed by digits. Your demand notice of annual subscription, which also contains your membership number, can also be requested via: info@cibng.org

The alphabet preceding the digit in your membership number always indicates which grade you belong to. To check your membership grade, log in to your profile. Your membership grade is the next column immediately after your name.

The next step after membership registration is examination. The Institute examination is held 4 times in a year (February, April, July, and October). You will be informed via email or text message when examination registration commences.

All those studying for the Institute’s qualification examinations are required to register as ordinary or student members.

Yes. It is advisable that when you apply to become a member with us that you have all the relevant documents scanned and ready to attach to your application.

You can register to become a member of the Institute anytime of the year. The examination registration, however, comes up 4 times a year (February, April, July, and October).

You become chartered when you are inducted at the completion of the Institute’s professional examination.

You can enquire about upgrading by sending your documents and certificates through info@cibng.org, we will advise you on the grade options applicable to you.

Please visit www.cibng.org and login with your membership number and password to access your personal profile, click update member personal record and update your record.

You can change your password by following this process: login with your membership number and password, click change password. Then change your password and save.

To retrieve your password, go to http://www.cibng.org, click member login, click on click here in the front of have your forgotten your password, enter your membership number and email address, then click send now.

Kindly be informed that you cannot change your username. To get your username, kindly send email to ictdept@cibng.org or info@cibng.org.

To change your contact details, please login, click update personal data and make necessary changes, then click save.

If you have not studied for a while and you haven’t completed the examination, then we would be delighted to speak with you about your individual situation. You will be availed study materials after you must have registered for examination and you can also attend any of the accredited tuition centers.

No, professional designations are only used after your induction into the professional membership of the Institute. The following are the current professional designation for each category of membership:

  • Honorary Senior Member HCIB
  • Associate Member ACIB

Microfinance Certified Member MCIB

You will be required to complete a Conversion Application Form and attach a copy of the certificate. The application would be approved after the verification of the certificate from the issuing authority.

Members who are 60 years and above are deemed as retired members and thereby qualify for a 50% discount on their yearly subscriptions while members those who are 70 years and above are given 100% discount on annual subscription.

No. For you to become a Professional Banker, you must have registered with the Institute, sit for and pass the prescribed examinations. This will qualify you to be elected as an Associate Member which will then make you a Professional Banker.

The Institute, like other certificate awarding Institutions does not re-issue Certificate. In the event of the loss of the certificate by a member, he/she will only be issued “TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN to confirm his membership and qualification.

The first thing to do is to get your membership reactivated by paying up all your outstanding subscriptions. You will also be required to update your records. You can make the payment online or manually.
